The Metal Structures Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department at the National Technical University of Athens was founded in 1965. Since 2003 it is housed in its own building at Zografou Campus, covering a total area of 2.120 m², of which 640 m² are testing space, while 650 m² are offices of the staff and auxiliary facilities. The building also hosts a small auditorium of 61 seats, covering 95 m², as well as a PC Lab of 100 m². The storage rooms, anchoring area and other auxiliary rooms take the remaining 375 m².
The Metal Structures Laboratory is active in education, research, and scientific as well as experimental support of technological development in the following fields:

• Steel-reinforced concrete composite construction
• Special purpose steel structures
• Towers
• Cable structures
• Structures made of composite materials
